It remind me I had Gehrm arrangement I my watch list since a few months too.

Oh and I listen to Ludwig arrangement too !

It's funny but I listen to Dark Reality a lot too recently, especially that one arrangement (a music of an old fromsoft game aka king's field IV) and I don't know but recently when I hear organ I can only thought about Laurence (the first Vicar TM) playing. (His theme is the only one with one after all. How can I not associate it with him. I imagined that maybe he could play such an instrument. And now I'm imagining him played his friends theme...)

The Songs of Final Fantasy

I’m still bored to death so I make this list of Final Fantasy songs that I love. Note that these are songs, not score and I won’t include any songs from Compilation of Final Fantasy VII since I’ve already made such post two days ago. 

Since tumblr only allows 5 videos per post, this is my top 5 favorite Final Fantasy songs, follow by some others:

1. Eyes on Me (Final Fantasy VIII) by Faye Wong. The song of all songs. The very first song made for any Final Fantasy game. It also fits beautifully inside the game. When you listen to it, you can tell it’s quite an old song but the lyric is thoughtful and romantic, it becomes a timeless song. Also proof that Nobuo Uematsu is a genius composer.

2. Kimi ga Iru Kara (Final Fantasy XIII) by Sayuri Sugawara. Tbh, I never really like FFXIII. I finished the game, with help from cheats and walkthrough and then I felt nothing when the credits rolled. The gameplay is too linear, it’s too boring, the battle system felt too tedious. I never feel attached to Lightning and more attached to Snow but then as far as I know he became an emo and anti hero-ish in FFXIII-2. I never want to pay any interest with all its sequels, and I still don’t want to. But gotta admit when the trailer was released and I was so excited, I love this song so much. And don’t get me wrong, I also love the song for English version, My Hands by Leona Lewis. But I prefer this one more.

3. Suteki da Ne (Final Fantasy X) by Rikki. Also composed by Nobuo Uematsu together with Kazushige Nojima. There are two versions of Suteki da Ne, the main one which played during the scene where Yuna and Tidus kiss and the orchestral one which played in the credits. I prefer the orchestra version.

4. Kiss Me Goodbye (Final Fantasy XII) by Angela Aki. This one is also composed by Nobuo Uematsu. FFXII overall has a stellar soundtrack, too bad I never actually get to finish the game. And in the style of Kingdom Hearts, this song has Japanese and English version, both performed by Angela Aki. This one in particular is Angela Aki’s performance of this song in English. I like this performance too when she sang this song in Japanese version.

5. Stand by Me (Final Fantasy XV) by Florence + The Machine (Ben E. King cover). I was actually crossed when this was first announced as FFXV song. A cover for FF song? Sing by mainstream musician?? But of course Florence proved me wrong. It’s a great cover. Ironically, I haven’t played FFXV yet and in order not to spoil my self, distancing from anything related to FFXV. Notice the ‘lucis’ in my username, I’d waited that game for a decade and still haven’t played it, 4 years later since the game released. I was sidetracked, then I also have lists of game that I want to play. I was about to have this first but FFVII Remake was also gonna be released and that was what I prioritized. I even joked my brother maybe I should just wait until it’s available for free on PSN Plus. Anyway, I was about to put Somnus, but then Somnus would count more as soundtrack rather than original song. Other Florence’s song for FFXV, Too Much is Never Enough is also really good.

6. Cosmos, Chaos, The Messenger (Dissidia Final Fantasy) by Your Favorite Enemies. These three songs are one package and should be mentioned together. Cosmos and Chaos are composed by Takeharu Ishimoto and appear in the gameplay. The Messenger is bonus track. Gosh these songs are so underrated. And I really miss my PSP now. 

7. Melodies of Life (Final Fantasy IX) by Emiko Shiratori. This song also has English and Japanese version. Another one composed by Nobuo Uematsu. This song is also quite legendary but not as famous as Eyes on Me. In fact, I just know this song exists recently. Maybe because Faye Wong is more famous than Emiko Shiratori..hmm...

These songs, many people like it but personally I’m not really keen...

Ardyn Latin name?

Recently I heard some people talking about the fact that all Kings and Queens of Lucis have a name with latin origin, except Ardyn. But is it really the case?

 Let’s go further into this!

 First, you have to know that Ardyn’s name wasn’t originally spelled ‘’a-r-d-y-n’’ but ‘’a-r-d-e-n’’ with an E as you can see on Roberto Ferrari’s artwork:

  If you want to know the reason of this change, I made a post where you can find all the explanations: Why ‘’Arden’’ became ‘’Ardyn’’?

To summarize, it’s due to an incompatibility with the French pronunciation and so the sound [ɛ] became [i].

 It is true that names like Somnus, Crepera or Noctis Lucis Caelum are based on latin roots, with ‘’Noctis’’ coming from ‘’nox’’ (=night) and Lucis Caelum from ‘’lux’’ (=light) and sky, for example. Let’s see what we can find for Ardyn…

 With ‘’Ardyn’’, we can have ‘’ardi’’ or ‘’ārdus’’ which can mean dry/arid or meagre/shrivelled or spiritless or even greedy. If some of this words could possibly connect with Ardyn’s story and personnality, they are not entirely satisfactory.

 With ‘’Arden’’ on the other hand, we can have ‘’ardere’’, ‘’ardent’’ or ‘’ardēns’’ which refers to something on fire, burning or shining.

  As you can see the root of the word is always the same and this consistency makes me believe that it is this idea of fire that inspired the dev team for Ardyn’s name.

 In addition, if you check SOMNUS and OMNIS LACRIMA lyrics, you can find this:

 Somnus : « Deus dormit/Et liberi ignem faciunt/Numquam extinguunt » which means « God sleeps/And its children start a fire/They can’t extinguish »

OMNIS LACRIMA : « Liberi… Et liberi ignem faciunt » which means « Children… children start a fire »

 Despite the idea about the fire, you can assume that Ardyn is literaly like a flame still burning through the ages that no one is able to extinguish. In this way, the fire symbolize his immortality but also the threat he represents for the entire world.

 Notice that ‘’Liberi… Et liberi ignem faciunt’’ is not anymore in the OMNIS LACRIMA of FFXV but comes from the Versus XIII version of the song. Nonetheless, OMNIS LACRIMA lyrics were written by Tetsuya Nomura so their meaning is surely connected to the heart of the game even if a lot of things changed in 10 years, and most importantly they were still part of the song when Ardyn character was created.

 .

Moreover about this idea of fire: if you consider Ardyn’s complete name with the ardēns root you obtain ‘’Arden Lucis Caelum’’, ‘’Ardent/Fire Light Sky’’. As we can interpretate Noctis name as ‘’Light in a Night Sky’’ and connects it to his job as the Chosen King that consist in bringing back the light in a world of darkness, we can interpretate Ardyn’s one as ‘’Light of Fire in the Sky’’ and see some interesting connections with his character.

 First, the ‘’sky on fire’’ refers to the time of the day when the sunshines enter the planet’s atmosphere in a way that colors the sky in red (like Ardyn’s hair btw). It is the case at sunrise or at sunset and we know how the dawn is a central theme through FFXV. Besides, the sunset corresponds to the aurora which is represented by the Goddess Eos in Greek mythology, exactly as the name of the planet in FFXV. Ardyn is literaly a character that symbolizes these two moments of the day: he was shining and brillant as a healer and future King 2000 years ago like a sunrise, and then he fell into darkness when the Starscourge corrupted his body, he ‘’spurned the dawn’’ as the Mysterious Voice explains in Episode Ignis and was trapped in an eternal night after his sunset.

 Talking about darkness… Second, we can also read the name as ‘’fire from the sky’’ which is a biblical reference evoking a divine thunder falling on mortals to punish them, or to give them a blessing. As Ardyn says about his immortality, ‘’such is my blessing, and curse’’… You find again the dichotomy of Ardyn’s character: good and benevolent in the past, blessed with unique abilities as a gift from the Gods to humanity, and then his powers have proved to be one of Eos worst plague when he remained immortal, spreading the Starscourge evrywhere and dooming this world as a divine retribution (maybe because of mankind’s mistakes in Solheim times?). Furthermore, it would not be the first time biblical references are used to characterize Ardyn… There are too many to be listed here but check for example these two artworks recalling the Palm Sunday and a crucifixion:

 To conclude, for me Ardyn’s name HAS a latin origin too but due to several minor changes here and there the root is not as visible as for Noctis or Somnus for example. Moreover, I strongly believe that the latin root is ‘’ardēns’’ which corresponds pretty well to his character and connects with a lot of point from FFXV lore.

10 Songs I’m Currently Obsessed With

Got tagged by @jastiss and @atarostarling to talk about my favourite music, what’s not to love? I can talk about music all day, errday. Also realised a lot of these songs are pretty sexual. Typical.

i. I Wanna Be Yours - Arctic Monkeys | Slow, hypnotic, and downright sexual. It’s been a favourite for some time now, but it’s so gooood. And the lyrics: “I wanna be your vacuum cleaner, breathing in your dust. / If you like your coffee hot, let me be your coffee pot. / I wanna be your setting lotion, hold your hair in deep devotion. At least as deep as the Pacific Ocean.” Hey, I don’t know but it works. And so fucking well at that.

ii. Supermassive Black Hole - Muse | A longtime favourite. You can’t go wrong with Muse, really. Everything is on point with this song - riffs, bass, falsetto. “Glaciers melting in the dead of night, and the superstar’s sucked into the supermassive.” ..and I definitely have a thing for lyrics.

iii. Havana - Camila Cabello ft. Young Thug | No surprise here. This song inspired the eponymous lap-dance-in-Lestallum (Ignis x reader) fic, which I still think of whenever I listen to this. I’m obsessed. But seriously, balmy days and Latin dancing..

iv. Earned It - Travis Garland | I love the original, but this feels.. darker. And I like darker. Nightcore did an even darker version of Travis’ rendition, and I love that too. All three versions are brilliant to write smut with.

v. Bedroom Hymns - Florence + the Machine | F+TM does good songs in general, but this has got to be my favourite, along with What the Water Gave Me and Stand by Me. I love the dramatics in this, as well as the emotion in her voice. Goosebumps. The good kind.

vi. Feel It Still (ZHU Remix) - Portugal. The Man | I prefer this to the original, I think it’s more badass. And for some reason, I imagine older!Ignis in his Kingsglaive uniform, throwing his lance/polearm, taking down a couple of daemons.. *reaches for water because this thirst is overwhelming*

vii. Slow - Hurts | Also slow and hypnotic. Also dramatic. I think I’m in a really sexual mood today. But I love the pining element in the song. “But all I can think when you take off your mink is it’s over. / What you’re doing here is murder, when you whip your body slow.” Goodness.

viii. Bone + Tissue - Gallant | I love Gallant, and I love his lyrics. I think there’s an obvious pattern in the songs I’m choosing for this post, but I’m very driven by my moods and tonight's flavour is this. Slow, strong, sexy. Yum.

ix. Senpai - Shiki | Okay so @tehrevving shared this on Discord one day, and now.. I can’t get enough of it. It’s so filthy but I love it. As for the style of the song, I think one of the comments on YouTube sums it up nicely: “When you love anime and the Japanese community, but you gangsta AF.”

x. Tension - Fergie | I used to be a dancer, so the occasional dance-y song will seep into my playlists. I haven’t performed in a long while now, but I still enjoy choreographing and/or freestyling from time to time. This is one of the songs I’m using now. Fantastic beat for hits, with good variations.

Two additional songs because they’re FFXV,

xi. Somnus - Yoko Shimomura (FFXV Piano Collections) | Somnus hits me with the feels every. Single. Time. No matter how many times I listen to it. It’s still one of the most beautiful songs I’ve ever had the pleasure to come across, and it’s one of my most favourites from all of Final Fantasy. I loved the song so much I had to learn the piano collections version on piano, and I just finished it a week or two ago. And every time I play it myself, I feel like crying.

xii. Ignis’ Theme - Yasunori Mitsuda | No surprise here too. I loved it the moment I heard it. I found it to be so fitting for a character like Ignis and it just pulled on all my heartstrings immediately. These two FFXV songs are still in my current favourites as they’re the most recent songs I played on the piano.

Favorite Chocobro:

Noctis, hands down! Dork Prince, awkward child, sweet boi, ages gracefully (hello older Noct), what’s there not to love?!

Favorite Guest Party Member (including Ravus and Libertus from DLC):

Toss up between Aranea and Ravus because Ravus’ attacks with Ignis are so badass and perfect and seamless and hdjdjdghekkdjd and omg that coat? But Aranea steals my heart because hello have you seen a more badass, sassy, queen of my heart with a kickass attack set? She’s my ultimate girl crush for FFXV ♡

Favorite Minor Character(s):

Dave, I think? He sends us out for dog tags so families can have closure. What a good old lad. Plus points for nice tattoos and cute doggo.

Favorite Villain:

ARDYN. ARDYN. ARDYN. Heck, he might be my fav Final Fantasy villain of all time (sorry Sephiroth). He’s such a nuanced character, with so many different layers and such complexity, you love to hate him but you can’t help but emphatize. Plus he’s so deliciously evil and devious, he just wants to watch the world burn, and can you blame him?! Betrayed by the gods and people he served to become the living scourge. He’s also the most successful villain, achieving everything he set out to do. And his theme song. All 4 versions so far. I could wax lyrical all day about how each reveals different layers of him, from just a creepy stranger danger that’s not quite friend or foe to all out pipe-organ-villain in ep Ignis, but that’s not quite the point of this ask meme is it xD

Favorite Kingsglaive Character:

Nyx :( because he deserved so much better. He’s all rough around the edges in the right places. And I majorly ship him and Luna. Also he’s hot AF and I’m superficial :p

Favorite Astral/Divine Being:

You know what? I don’t like the Astrals. I think they are shit. FIX YOUR OWN GODDAMN MESS, NOCTIS DIDN’T HAVE TO DIE FOR YOUR FUCK UPS (looking at you in particular, Bahamut).

Ok fav divine being? Carbuncle! He’s the cutest little sweetie pie. Give me a million more dream world sequences and Chocobo Moogle carnival pls.

Favorite Character Overall:

Gahhh why do you make me choose?! Toss up between Noctis and Prompto. Can I cheat and just choose Promptis :p

Favorite Weapon:

For stats? Balmung. Because I braved the end-game dungeons for it.

For aesthetics? Sword of the Father. So beautiful, and so much feels tied to it.

Favorite Location:

Wiz chocobo post (this is my inner Prompto speaking) - I love the chocobos!! And chocobo racing!

Favourite Quest/Questline/Hunt:

Gladio’s cup noodle quest. It’s so ridiculously cheesy and horrible that I freaking love it ;D

That or Prompto’s photo tours!

Favorite Boss: 

Errrr this is tough. Tbh FFXV was lacking a little in terms of challenging boss fights, but I’d give this to Leviathan because cinematics baby.

Favorite Monster/Monster Family/etc:

Cactuars cuz they’re cute and hello have you seen how much EXP they give you?!

Favorite Song:

How can I choose just one? I love the entire soundtrack so damn much. Maybe Somnus. Maybe Noctis. Gods, each one makes me cry in their own way. I’m literally obsessed with that masterpiece.

Favorite Boss Theme:

Magna Insomnia. It’s such a worthy crescendo to such a great game.

Favorite Non-Episode DLC/Update/Event:

The Assassin’s Festival because PROMPTIS NERD DATE.

Favorite Episode DLC:

Objectively, Episode Ignis. It was the most polished, gameplay and story wise. Also, CAN WE GET A WHOOP WHOOP FOR ALT ENDING PLS.

Favourite thing to do: rent chocobos and ride them in lakes like the Alsta Slough or Vesperpool. SWIMMING CHOCOBOS ARE TOO CUTE.

Divine Fire - Takeharu Ishimoto (Final Fantasy Type-0)

I found this one recently, but it has VERY QUICKLY (so quickly it ran faster than The Flash) grown into one of my absolute favorites out of my eternal favorites.

It sounds like fire, courage, and war. That’s basically Type-0!

The powerful choir, the strings, everything is wonderful of it. 

A Song of Storm and Fire - Yuki Kajiura (Tsubasa Chronicles)

UNGH. Female choir + solo singer. Oboe solo. The absolute air of magic, battle, magic, immense power, and more magic? YES. This one gave me a major scene in my original project and it’s one of my fave scenes, so it’s got a double-special place in my kokoro.

The Wizard’s Last Rhymes - Rhapsody of Fire

HNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNFG ABSOLUTE YES. This one too gave me a major scene in my original project and it’s one of my fave scenes, so it’s got a double-special place in my kokoro. As music itself, it’s absolutely brilliant. They used the New World’s Symphony by Dvorak as main base, but added to it power metal and great lyrics with a fantasy story? Eternal fave.

2nd movement from the 7th Symphony - Ludwig Van Beethoven

UNGH. The dark aura, the power, the crescendo. I’ve always loved it, adore to imagine so many things with this one (usually my original villain’s villain speech :p). I orgasmed when this unexpectedly started sounding in the theatre during X-Men: Apocalypse.

La Follia - either by Corelli or by Vivaldi

I CANNOT CHOOSE A FAVORITE VERSION.

I think music-wise I prefer Vivaldi’s, but as Corelli’s was the first I knew and has a pretty color, I can’t pick objectively :p
